Today, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a decree to develop the spelling of the Crimean Tatar language using the alphabet of this language based on the Latin script.
The decision resulted from a meeting of the National Commission on the Crimean Tatar Language, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk.
The State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience and the Ministry of Education and Science were in charge of the development of the new spelling. This research will be carried out with the participation of the O.O. Potebnya Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.
The use of the Latin alphabet will facilitate the learning of the Crimean Tatar language by both ethnic Crimean Tatars and everyone else.
