Phone conversations can affect a defender’s emotions. The Defense Department has suggestions on how to talk to a soldier over the phone.
What’s worth talking about:
- Find out the region and approximate location of the person.
- Communicate with your partner about daily matters, and say words of support.
- End the conversation on a positive note.
What you shouldn’t talk about:
- Do not inquire about the precise location, dimensions of the unit, or nature of the duties, among other things.
- Avoid concentrating on any problems that require the military member’s involvement. At the moment, he is unable to provide assistance, which could lead to feelings of helplessness.
- Don’t discuss long-distance relationships. Delay these conversations.
Attention: Do not share any information about a service member or their data (position, unit number, location of the military unit or subdivision, etc.) in public domains, such as social networks or chats. This endangers the soldiers and their comrades.
Fraudsters can also use your and your defense counsel’s contacts.
