Maintaining regular communication with a service member is vital to ease the concerns of their loved ones. Occasionally, contact with a fighter may be interrupted due to unavoidable circumstances. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine provides instructions for the relatives of a defender in case of lost contact.

 

If a soldier’s communication is interrupted without warning and the soldier is absent for longer than usual, his or her loved ones should do the following:

 

– No contact for more than three days? Contact the immediate commander.

 

– No communication with the immediate commander? Contact the unit commander or their deputy for moral and psychological support.

 

– If you have lost contact with a soldier for more than 10 days and there is no communication with the commander, you should contact the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support in the place where the defender was drafted.

 

To reduce the risk of losing contact, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine advises military personnel and their families to agree on communication rules in advance, including:

 

– Determine the frequency of contact;

– Agree on who calls first and when;

– Discuss the circumstances under which the defender’s relatives should contact his/her commanders or sworn brothers.
