The European Union’s Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation, Europol, has joined the Joint Investigation Team, JIT, to investigate serious international crimes in Ukraine. Europol’s website reported this news.

The Prosecutors General of the seven member states and Europol Executive Director Catherine De Bolle signed an agreement at the 17th meeting of the Eurojust Consultative Forum of Prosecutors General.

The agency will offer analytical and forensic assistance to JIT members, plus gather and examine legally acquired data from open sources such as social media, television, and radio broadcasts.

Furthermore, Europol will share its expertise and experience in cases of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The joint investigation team started in March of last year. Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine formed it by working with Eurojust. Later, Estonia, Latvia, Slovakia, and Romania joined the team during the fall of 2022.
