During a special meeting chaired by Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, representatives of the Ukrainian School in Geneva raised an issue for consideration.
If a teacher is employed at a Ukrainian school but is teaching remotely from abroad or is on leave, that period still counts towards their seniority.
If a teacher teaches abroad but is not employed in a school in Ukraine, his or her service will still be counted if this is provided for by the relevant international agreements governing pension-related issues.
There currently needs to be a relevant international agreement between Ukraine and Switzerland. Therefore, the meeting participants discussed the need to develop a mechanism to credit seniority to all Ukrainian teachers currently abroad.
The Vice Prime Minister emphasized the need for the state to have a clear position on its citizens abroad, including teachers, and to take care of their social rights.
The relevant agencies were instructed to prepare proposals to address this issue.
