Following a working visit to Kharkiv by the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk, a meeting was held to discuss the humanitarian response in the Kharkiv region. The meeting attendees discussed potential solutions to the region’s humanitarian challenges. 

In particular, the objective is to provide water to the Kharkiv region in the event of damage to the centralized drinking water supply system as a result of shelling.

The Ministry of Reconstruction has made changes to CMU Resolution No. 771. Kharkiv region will join the water supply project already operating in Dnipro, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv regions.

This decision will streamline the permitting process and accelerate the timeline for the construction of artesian wells for social institutions in the Kharkiv region during the martial law period.

The relevant draft resolution is currently undergoing approval by the Ministry of Justice and will soon be submitted to the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers for further consideration by the Government.

The meeting attendees also discussed the logistical challenges of meeting the timber requirements of military formations for the construction of fortifications and ensuring sustainable mobile communications in the event of a blackout.

Furthermore, the participants were updated on the relocation of residential institutions from the Kharkiv Oblast social protection system to other regions of Ukraine.

“I would like to stress that the Kharkiv region is currently a priority area. Therefore, it is essential to respond promptly to any humanitarian challenges that arise in this region. We are prepared to work every week. After all, such meetings provide an excellent opportunity for central and local authorities to coordinate their efforts to address a wide range of issues,” said Iryna Vereshchuk.
