Ukraine is facing a shortage of qualified teachers of international humanitarian law

The regular meeting of the Commission on International Humanitarian Law was dedicated to the topic of IHL education.

As stated by the Chair of the Commission, Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, it is crucial to provide training for IHL teachers and disseminate IHL knowledge among the military.

The meeting attendees explored potential avenues for enhancing the study of international humanitarian law (IHL) in general, secondary, vocational, and higher education institutions.

Iryna Vereshchuk highlighted the critical importance of sharing IHL knowledge in the context of a full-scale war for Ukraine.

The official directed the pertinent executive authorities to implement mandatory IHL programs and enhance the qualifications of teachers with the input of experts from the state and public sectors.
