In times of war, accessibility is still a government priority

Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, met to discuss social protection for disabled people affected by the war.

The meeting focused on children and veterans.

The event was attended by Tetiana Lomakina, Advisor to the Presidential Commissioner for Accessibility, as well as representatives from the following ministries: Ministry of Reintegration, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Veterans, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Digital Transformation.

The group discussed the purchase of school buses with seats designed for children with special educational needs.

The meeting participants discussed the Driving Schools for Persons with Disabilities project.

– Transfer to driving schools.

– Money for driving training and car conversion for people with disabilities.

– Making guidelines for setting up driving schools for people with disabilities.

The issue of adaptive sports for people with disabilities was discussed.

The meeting led to an agreement to improve coordination between agencies to help people with disabilities in times of war.
