Barrier-free basics: What to do if you see an unaccompanied child

Опубліковано 30 September 2024 року, о 16:17

The Barrier-Free Handbook, created by First Lady Olena Zelenska, offers practical advice for this situation. Here are some examples:

– Make sure the child is alone. Ask if anyone has seen an adult nearby. Do not leave the child alone.

– If the child needs medical help, call an ambulance. If you know how, give first aid.

– Reassure the child. Offer them water, find out their name, where they are from, and when they last saw their family. Get their parents’ or other relatives’ phone numbers.

– Ask when the child was last home. Find out if they know where they live.

– Take the child to a safe place nearby.

– Call 102 to report the child. Give all the information you know.

– Contact child welfare services. If possible, contact child protection services. Contacts can be found on local authority websites.

If you can’t wait for the police or children’s services to arrive, call and ask if you can leave your child with the administration of a hospital, railway station, or other public institution.

You can also report a lost child using the Child is Not Alone telegram bot.
