When a person loses someone close to them, finds themselves in a life-threatening situation, or witnesses the death of others, they may develop survivor syndrome. She devalues her own negative experience, feeling shame and guilt because she believes she didn’t try hard enough to save someone’s life.
Survivor Syndrome can be part of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but it is much more often caused by stress and deep emotions.
