These tips were developed for the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program “How Are You?” at the initiative of Olena Zelenska.
First, tell your child what the loud sound means and why it is happening. Let them know that our military is already aware of the danger and taking action to stop it.
Note that the sounds of explosions are the work of our defenders.
Tell your child: We are in a safe place, we are here together, and we will manage.
Do some relaxation techniques. For instance, try doing some breathing exercises:
– Breathe in through the nose, out through the mouth, and accompany it with sounds that will entertain the child;
– Sing songs or blow something light off a hard surface, such as feathers or crumbs.
Listening to stories or eating a lollipop or dried fruit can help reduce stress.
For each loud noise, you can say something funny.
Once the danger is gone, commend the child’s bravery and perseverance.
