The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urging the International Criminal Court to consider the actions of the russian leadership in forcing deported Ukrainian children to become russian citizens. This is considered one of the signs of genocide.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated this.

On January 4th, the President of the Russian Federation signed a decree titled ‘On the definition of certain categories of foreign citizens and stateless persons who have the right to apply for citizenship of the russian federation.’

Ukrainian orphans and children without parental care can obtain russian citizenship by the personal decision of the president of russia, regardless of federal legislation. The heads of russian organizations where Ukrainian children are forcibly detained may apply for russian citizenship.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this ‘regulatory act’ violates Ukrainian legislation, international law, and the rights of Ukrainian children who were forcibly transferred to the territory of the aggressor state during the large-scale russian offensive.

The department emphasized that Ukrainian children who were illegally transferred to russian territory under the false pretext of ‘humanitarian protection’ are still Ukrainian citizens.
