In the Hungarian capital, Ukrainian asylum seekers still receive free transportation

The Budapest Transport Center has announced that Ukrainian asylum seekers in Budapest can use public transport for free until September 30, 2024.

To use the service, asylum seekers must present a Ukrainian document that identifies their identity. The document can be:  

– passport

– identity card

– residence permit;

– Ukrainian student card for foreign students studying in Ukraine;

– any other document that contains the Ukrainian address of residence for foreigners who have stayed in Ukraine.

With these documents, you can travel for free on all public transportation in Budapest, except for:  

– Express 100E to the airport;

– funicular to the Buda Fortress;

– sightseeing flights;

– boats;

– some routes of suburban “blue” buses and HEV trains within the city.

Free travel service for Ukrainians was introduced on March 4, 2022. This benefit has now been extended for another six months, until the end of September 2024.
