The issue was raised at a meeting on veterans’ policy. Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk chaired the meeting.

The participants discussed ways to speed up the process. Sometimes it takes more than three months to become a combatant.

In early 2024, legislation was enacted to automate the procedure. However, the basis for obtaining it remains the order of the commander of the military unit.

On occasion, the document path appears to be excessively lengthy and bureaucratic.

To resolve this issue, it is also essential to enhance communication between military units and the institutions that grant combatant status.

The Vice Prime Minister directed representatives of regional military administrations to compile lists of individuals who have experienced this issue so that the Defense Ministry can conduct a detailed analysis of such cases.

“First, we must identify the specific areas that require improvement and then implement the necessary changes to address these issues,” emphasized Iryna Vereshchuk.
