The Ukrainian Red Cross Society organized the forum with the support of the Danish Red Cross and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Experts from Ukraine and around the world attend. They include representatives of the Red Cross, government agencies, international organizations, foreign embassies, educational institutions, and NGOs.
The event is for Ukrainian government officials working with international humanitarian law. Over three days, they will hear presentations, exchange views and receive training.
Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk welcomed the participants and said that international humanitarian law was created to save lives in times of war. It’s a shame to see it being violated by the russians today.
“So, when this war is over, we need to rewrite the rules. Right now, Ukraine is at the heart of a new IHL. It has to be such that what is happening in Ukraine in front of the whole world never happens again,” the Vice Prime Minister said.
Iryna Vereshchuk, the Vice Prime Minister, is in charge of the Interagency Commission on the Application and Implementation of International Humanitarian Law in Ukraine.
