ECHO is the European Commission’s department for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations. It is the EU’s specialized institution for humanitarian response.

Specific focus was placed on preparations for the winter period, with particular attention to frontline areas. Namely, the need for additional generators, cogeneration systems, vouchers (cash assistance) for the purchase of solid household fuel (including firewood and briquettes). It also addresses the needs of internally displaced persons for temporary accommodation.

In July, the European Union is expected to provide Ukraine with additional funding to address the urgent needs identified.

Iryna Vereshchuk extended her gratitude to the European Commission and ECHO for their invaluable support of Ukraine in the context of the ongoing conflict with russia.

After the meeting, the ECHO team said they’d keep supporting Ukraine. They’ll focus on preparing for the autumn-winter period and meeting priority humanitarian needs.
