The meeting was attended by the heads of all 24 organizations under the regional military administrations and the Kyiv City Military Administration.
Also at the event were Valeria Vershinina, head of the Stabilization Support Services Charitable Foundation, and UNHCR representative Nadiya Vakhovska.
The meeting looked at the current situation with regional IDP councils, including the main challenges, problems, proposals, and solutions.
IDP councils began in Ukraine last summer.
The Council’s mission is to advocate for the interests of IDPs on the ground, facilitate their interaction with authorities at all levels and with public and international organizations, and provide support in solving current concerns. Additionally, the Councils offer assistance with the adaptation and integration of IDPs into host communities, support for relocated businesses, and other services.
There are 873 IDP councils in Ukraine. 25 are under the Regional Military Administration and Kyiv City State Administration, 114 are under district military administrations, and 734 are under local governments.
“IDP councils represent the interests of displaced persons. They’ve been working in the region for a year. We learned about their many tasks. We also heard about some issues. This is the first meeting, but there will be more. There is work to be done and room for improvement. I thank everyone who took part in the meeting. I will do everything I can to support our IDPs,” Iryna Vereshchuk said at the end of the meeting.
