Iryna Vereshchuk, the Vice Prime Minister, led a regular working meeting on humanitarian response in the Kharkiv region.

The participants talked about how to support communities during the winter. In particular, the leaders of a few communities on the front lines in the region talked about taking special measures to make sure that the upcoming autumn and winter are sustainable.

The meeting attendees were also given an update on the status of the draft resolution from the Cabinet of Ministers. This draft resolution allows residents of the frontline areas to harvest fuelwood (logging residues) for their use. The draft act is currently with the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers for further consideration by the Government.

They also talked about paying more for utilities in areas near the front lines of Kharkiv Oblast. They also spoke about giving 15 different-sized mobile gas boilers to the region’s communities to ensure the region’s life support facilities keep working.

The Kharkiv region is still a top priority for humanitarian assistance. We need to get resources and efforts in place to ensure we’re ready for the next heating season,” said Iryna Vereshchuk.
