The State Standard is one of the tools the EU uses to preserve, strengthen, and popularize languages. So, Ukraine can’t fully join the European educational space without getting this document approved.
Iryna Vereshchuk, the Vice Prime Minister, led a special meeting to discuss the issue.
The draft standard was prepared by a working group from the National Commission for State Language Standards and the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The National Commission on State Language Standards has already given its opinion on the case. The Commission is meeting to approve the Standard.
A group is being formed to make laws about “Ukrainian as a foreign language.”
The Standard will make the Ukrainian language more important in the world.
