Norway is changing its policy on protecting Ukrainian refugees

Опубліковано 30 September 2024 року, о 15:07

27 September, automatic protection for Ukrainian refugees from six regions of Ukraine (Lviv, Volyn, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Rivne) was canceled. The Norwegian government’s website reports.

The Directorate for Foreigners has indicated that it considers the aforementioned areas to be safe. Consequently, individuals arriving in the country from these locations will be subject to an individual assessment of their protection needs and may be refused asylum.

These changes are necessary to ensure the control and sustainability of migration processes, as well as to maintain the ability to assist Ukrainians impartially.

These rules don’t apply to people who already have temporary protection in Norway or their families. They also don’t apply to people who are being taken to Norway for medical care and their families.
