The resolution, entitled “Missing Persons, prisoners of War and civilians in Captivity as a result of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine,” was endorsed by the delegates of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The Government portal reports.
By the aforementioned document, the Assembly calls for the immediate release and humane treatment of prisoners of war and civilians held by the russian federation. Furthermore, the Assembly condemns the torture and ill-treatment of these individuals.
A primary objective of the resolution is to facilitate access to Ukrainian detention facilities by the International Committee of the Red Cross and relevant UN mechanisms.
Furthermore, the document underscores the necessity to hold those accountable for violations of international humanitarian law to account.
PACE places great emphasis on the necessity of implementing effective rehabilitation programs for those who have been released from captivity. Furthermore, the Resolution calls on the international community to intensify its efforts to press the russian federation to ensure the release of all Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians currently held by the russian federation.
