The Ukrainian School of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s work was presented at a meeting on resolving Ukrainian citizens’ issues abroad. The event was chaired by Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Reintegration, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrainian embassies abroad, Ukrainian educational centers abroad, and other relevant agencies.

The Ukrainian School of the Blessed Virgin Mary has been operating in the UK since 1955. Since the outbreak of full-scale war in Ukraine in 2022, the weekend school has hosted hundreds of Ukrainian students from different regions.

The institution has 14 locations and is the largest charitable educational organization in the country, providing educational and psychological support to Ukrainian children.

In 2023, the school and the British Department for Education collaborated to implement full-time positions of Ukrainian-speaking education support workers for Ukrainian children who had been displaced to the United Kingdom.

These workers provide a range of services, including psychological support for children and parents, stress and emotion management classes, assistance with navigating the UK higher education system for further study, and support in overcoming language barriers.

At present, 30 such specialists are working in and around London, accompanying approximately 2,500 Ukrainian children. Plans are in place to expand the geographical scope of the project to encompass all local authorities in London, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the needs of Ukrainian children temporarily residing in the UK.
