The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is allocating an additional USD 7 million to finance a program providing cash assistance to certain categories of people during the winter period. This brings the total budget for the program to USD 37 million.

This program offers a one-time payment of UAH 21 thousand for the purchase of solid household fuel for vulnerable households in the following regions: Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kherson, and Mykolaiv.

Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, expressed gratitude to the international donor for their support of the population during the 2024/25 heating season.

“I am grateful to UNHCR for helping residents in frontline areas. We plan to start making payments to the population by the end of October. Over 20,000 households should receive them. By increasing the funding, we will be able to cover more households with assistance for the 2024/25 heating season.

On August 21, 2024, the Ministry of Reintegration and UNHCR signed an agreement to support frontline communities during the next winter period.
