Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk met with Ambassador Seymur Mardaliyev from Azerbaijan in Ukraine.

In compliance with Government Resolution No. 503 dated June 17, 2020, Iryna Vereshchuk, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, serves as the co-chair of the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani Commission on Economic Cooperation.

The participants discussed the prospects of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic and trade spheres.

Humanitarian assistance to Ukraine is also on the agenda. Azerbaijan will keep offering medical and psychological rehabilitation assistance to war-affected children and implement projects for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Azerbaijan is working on five projects to reconstruct infrastructure in Irpin and Bucha.

Baku will help restore Ukraine’s energy sector. The President of Azerbaijan authorized $7.6 million for Ukraine to buy generators and high-voltage cables.

A new area of collaboration involves humanitarian demining.

During the meeting, attendees agreed to host virtual sessions between Ukrainian and Azerbaijani business communities to enhance trade and economic relations.

In addition, state institutions from both countries have agreed to convene a joint meeting to discuss Azerbaijan’s experience with reintegrating and restoring formerly occupied territories.

The Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Azerbaijani Commission is gearing up for its 13th meeting, scheduled to take place in Baku next year.

“Ukraine and Azerbaijan have a history of constructive dialogue and strong cooperation. In light of the ongoing armed aggression against Ukraine, this partnership has become even more crucial. Today, the two countries are on the way to an even more effective stage of strategic partnership,” said the Vice Prime Minister.
