Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk attended the Second International Summit of Cities and Regions

The Vice Prime Minister moderated a panel on “Internally Displaced Persons.” A Humanitarian Challenge.

The panel included representatives from various government agencies, including Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, First Deputy Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Daria Marchak, and First Deputy Head of Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration Natalia Zabolotna.

The discussion was also attended by Xerxes Sidhwa, Director of the USAID Office of Humanitarian Assistance; Caroline Lindholm Billing, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Ukraine; Alessia Schiavone, Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Ukraine; Vitaliy Shmeriga, Senior Project Coordinator at the KfW Ukraine Office; and Carlos Carreiras, Mayor of Cascais (Portugal).

The participants engaged in a discussion regarding the collaboration of central and local authorities with international humanitarian organizations and donors to provide support to the war-affected population.

The humanitarian response included cash assistance, the Shelter program, the arrangement of temporary accommodation for IDPs, and preparations for the next autumn and winter period.

The participants devoted particular attention to the matter of housing for internally displaced persons. In particular, they discussed the construction of apartments for social rent and a program of preferential mortgages for IDPs.
