Iryna Vereshchuk: the number of forcibly deported Ukrainians may now reach 40,000 – we are fighting for their return

The occupier cynically abducts thousands of people from combat zones or from temporarily occupied territories, takes them out in an unknown direction – through quasi-humanitarian corridors, which the occupier creates without the consent of Ukraine. At the same time, the occupier in every possible way prevented the Ukrainian Government in evacuation of civilians. Many of our compatriots have already found themselves abroad against their will. However, Ukraine is doing everything to save or bring back its citizens.

In the ether of the «Nastoyaschee Vremya» channel, the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk said that today 53 buses with Mariupol residents that were blocked at the russiancheckpoint in Vasylivka together with ambulances with patients and children – finally managed to get to Zaporizhzhia.

Totally, more than 4 thousand people will already have hot food, home comfort and, most importantly, safety. We remind you that Mariupol residents need to get to Berdyansk on their own to get to the rescue buses. Mostly on foot – such cynical conditions of the occupiers.

Meanwhile, russia is creating an alternative “humanitarian reality” and trying to pave its own so-called “evacuation routes” for Mariupol residents in russia.

Expectedly, most citizens do not want to “escape” on the territory of the aggressor. As a result, russiantroops are forcibly taking civilians deep into the occupied territories or into russia itself. We are talking about tens of thousands of Ukrainians forcibly resettled this way, says Iryna Vereshchuk.

She announced the estimated number of Ukrainians forcibly deported by russia – almost 40,000.

According to a similar scheme, the occupier is operating in the temporarily occupied part of Kyiv region, trying to forcibly deport our people to Belarus.

– We are constantly and strongly signaling to the international community and institutions that the mentioned russian “corridors” are illegal and are not agreed with us. Especially since on the other side – both near Donetsk and Luhansk – forced migrants are passed through special filtration camps, in violation of the Geneva Convention. But for some reason, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) even decided to open a representative office in Rostov-on-Don to work with Ukrainians deported to Russia by force. Therefore, we demand them to facilitate the return of such our citizens. We hope that the Red Cross will be able to compile lists of our citizens, – the Deputy Prime Minister expressed the hope.

At the same time, the official was forced to state the powerlessness of such international institutions as the ICRC and the UN. Depending on mentioned above, Ukraine, however, continues to fight and will not stop fighting for each of its citizens and their return home.
