Exactly one year ago, on March 17th, 2022, the Government decided to establish the National Information Bureau (NIB).

The key purpose of this body is to maintain registers of prisoners of war, civilian hostages and deportees.

During the year of its operation, the NIB took part in 39 prisoner exchanges, resulting in the release of 1993 people from captivity.

During this time, the National Information Bureau has also created:

– Registry of Ukrainian defenders in captivity;

– Registry of enemy prisoners of war;

– Registry of political prisoners;

as well as participated in the creation of the online platform “Children of War” with data on children affected by the armed aggression of the russian federation.

In addition, the NIB, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, facilitates correspondence between Ukrainian prisoners of war and their relatives.

The National Information Bureau has launched a round-the-clock hotline 16-48 and other communication channels to receive calls from citizens. Over the year, operators received almost 225 thousand calls. The NIB received over 56 thousand more appeals via chatbots on Telegram and Viber, over 19 thousand via an online form on the NIB’s website, and over 37 thousand via e-mail: [email protected].

We are reminding that the functions of the NIB are performed by the state enterprise “Ukrainian National Center for Peacebuilding”, which belongs to the Ministry of Reintegration.
