Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and First Lady Olena Zelenska attended a meeting of the Interdepartmental Coordination Council on Mental Health and Psychological Assistance to Victims of Armed Aggression.
The meeting was part of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska.
The event was attended by Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, representatives of ministries, the Presidential Administration, the World Health Organization, members of parliament, and others.
The meeting focused on priority projects for military personnel and veterans. This target group will need psychological rehabilitation and psychosocial support from the state. And this is a significant part of the population. For example, veterans, their families, and their immediate environment constitute about 30% of the Ukrainian people.
Among other things, Iryna Vereshchuk called on the ministries to coordinate all resolutions and programs related to mental health with the Coordination Center for Mental Health under the Cabinet of Ministers. This platform will make it possible to quickly coordinate and implement all planned steps to provide psychological support and rehabilitation to military personnel and veterans.
“Our task is to develop mechanisms for the effective integration of veterans into society,” the Vice Prime Minister summarized.
As a reminder, civil support centers have already been established in the regions. They will play a significant role in the interaction and coordination of executive agencies, civic and voluntary organizations with war-affected people, including veterans.
