The event was attended by representatives of members of the Interagency Commission on the Application and Implementation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in Ukraine. Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk welcomed the participants at the opening of the event.

The Ukrainian Red Cross Society, in cooperation with the Danish and British Red Cross, organized a Summer School on International Humanitarian Law.

It aims to address topical issues related to the application of international humanitarian law, establish coordination and cooperation in the field of international humanitarian law in Ukraine, and disseminate knowledge of international humanitarian law among government officials.

The Vice-Premier emphasized that the understanding and practical application of international humanitarian law is extremely important for Ukraine during the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.  After all, the enemy violates every possible norm of international humanitarian law, both conventional and customary daily.

“I expect that the results of the Summer School will be reflected in regulatory initiatives, both at the level of national legislation and at the level of international law. Ukraine is currently suffering greatly from violations of international humanitarian law. Therefore, Ukraine will be among those who will radically update international humanitarian law,” said Iryna Vereshchuk.
