The award is one of the stages of the implementation plan of the Crimean Tatar language development strategy for 2022-2032. Crimean Tatar is considered a language in need of protection by UNESCO.
A proposal to create a law awarding those who made significant contributions to the development and promotion of the Crimean Tatar language was discussed at a recent meeting of the National Commission on the Crimean Tatar Language.
The meeting participants shared updates regarding the planning of contests to choose the top design for the state award. The State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience responsible for organizing and conducting the contest.
The idea to add the award will be given to the President for his signature as the decision will be approved by presidential decree.
The award aims to encourage people to boost the status of the Crimean Tatar language among young people through promotion. This way, the government will acknowledge the work of scientists and public sector members who oversee the growth of the language of one indigenous group in Ukraine.
