Ukrainian asylum seekers in the United States can now stay for up to two years, thanks to an extension of their stay period. This applies to those who are staying based on humanitarian entry permits.

Oksana Markarova, the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, shared this on her Facebook page.

Ukrainians who were granted the right to renew their residence permits include:

– arrived in the United States under the Uniting for Ukraine (U4U) program, a streamlined initiative to provide humanitarian admission to Ukrainian citizens;

– received a humanitarian admission at a U.S. border crossing between February 11 and April 25, 2022.

Humanitarian admission is a frequently used type of special entry status. It grants individuals the right to enter the United States for humanitarian reasons, even if they are not legally entitled to do so.
