Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said this on Polskie Radio. She explained that the current priorities in relations between Ukraine and Poland are security and defense issues.
The official is convinced that there should be constant communication between the neighboring countries in other important areas.
“Ukrainian and Polish farmers should build their relationship on a partnership basis. Therefore, they need to sit down and negotiate,” added Iryna Vereshchuk.
She suggests resolving the issue of joint customs and border control as the first step. Both sides will have a clear understanding of what, how much, and where they are going. This will ensure transparency in transit and prevent any abuse or manipulation.
There are already some developments in this area. Both parties have drafted and approved an agreement concerning joint control. This will facilitate understanding on both sides. Currently, the European Commission is considering the document.
Lviv Customs receives routine information about customs cargo declared on Polish territory at the Rava-Ruska-Hrebenne checkpoint. The pilot project on a customs agreement is also being implemented, to extend it to other customs crossings after appropriate regulation by the European Union.
Vice Prime Minister said, “We will finalize all the necessary points and find a compromise. It is crucial to have the will and desire to do so.”
